WHAT IS REIKI?????

Reiki is a non-invasive, non-manipulative touch healing technique originating in Japan that uses a channeling of the universal life force energy to heal mental, emotional, and physical injury and disease. Reiki practitioners have been trained and received special attunements to make them open conduits for channeling this universal energy through gentle touch to provide healing to themselves and others. Reiki, as a touch healing technique, arises out of Buddhist traditions and was “discovered” by Dr. Mikao Usui in the 1900’s; although such hands on healing has been practiced in many forms for thousands of years. The trained Reiki practitioner taps into the universal life force known variously as “ki”, “chi”, “prana”. Using and directing this universal energy the Reiki practitioner directs healing and relaxation towards physical and emotional dis”ease.” It is not a “miracle” cure but at the very least it is a potent technique for inducing a deep meditative state that promotes healing and compliments more traditional healing modalities.

Using the distinction drawn by Carolyn Myss in “Anatomy of the Spirit", Reiki promotes healing, but it not a “cure” in a medical sense. Many clients receive significant healing and emotional release from the technique, either alone, or in combination with medical treatment. Reiki touches the client on many levels and the energy channeled by the practitioner finds it’s way to where it is most needed. Reiki is not a “religion” but for many practitioners it is a spiritual path, leading to a greater understanding of the central energy of the universe and their own beliefs regarding their relationship to that energy, whatever they call it and whatever their religious views. The Reiki attunements also bring emotional grounding, greater intuitive sense, and increased creativity to many Reiki practioners.
